Wilde Finishes Off 2017 G.R.I.T. Program at Prairie View Middle School

By | Community Support, Dealer News, Employee News, Events | No Comments

As part of Wilde East Towne Honda’s commitment to the community, our dealership is a proud participant of the G.R.I.T. program at Prairie View Middle School.

On Friday, June 2, Wilde East Towne Honda completed its 2017 GRIT program at Prairie View, concluding the school year with the theme of Teamwork. Nineteen middle school students were recognized for exemplifying teamwork in the classroom; mirroring the teamwork involved in Wilde East Town Honda’s dealership.

About G.R.I.T.

GRIT is a four-part program consisting of four important traits, ‘Give It Your All,’ ‘Responsibility,’ ‘Initiative,’ and ‘Teamwork.’ Employees of Wilde East Towne Honda visit Prairie View Middle School four times each year to talk about one of those four traits of GRIT, and congratulate students who exemplify these traits in their classroom.

The GRIT program is part of the Sun Prairie Business Education Partnership. Wilde is a proud partner of the BEP, whose purpose is to connect teachers with the business community, provide programming to help students grow, and recognize students for great achievements.

Wilde East Towne Honda in the community for Team Honda’s Second Annual Week of Service

By | Community Support, Dealer News, Employee News, Events, Honda News | No Comments

Team Honda’s second annual National Week of Service is set for June 9th through June 18th, and Wilde East Towne Honda will send three volunteer teams into the community to support the cause.

Wilde East Towne Honda Volunteer Events

Our first team of employees will come together on Wednesday, June 14 to clean up Sun Prairie Dream Park. The not-for-profit playground was built in 2007 by volunteers, and receives no government funding.

On Friday, June 16, another group of Wilde East Towne Honda volunteers will serve food at the River Food Pantry, another nonprofit organization. The Pantry’s primary mission is “to bring a message of mercy and hope to those in need,” a mission Wilde East Towne Honda is thrilled to support.

Our final team for the week will head to the Colonial Club Senior Activity Center to participate in the StrawberryFest Run/Walk event. All proceeds from the event go toward providing programs and services for adults over the age of 55.

Our Commitment to the Community

For Wilde East Towne Honda, this week-long event is part of a greater, year-round strive to give back. Our commitment to the community doesn’t stop with putting great vehicles on the road. The Wilde Automotive Group supports numerous non-profit organizations, charities and events that directly benefit those who live and work here.

The Week of Service was introduced by Honda’s Corporate Social Responsibility sector last year as a way to ‘reinforce the Team Honda spirit of working together to make a difference in the communities in which we live and work.’ To build on Honda’s long history of supporting its communities, the Week of Service was built as a way to formally give back with coordinated volunteering.

Within the Week of Service is Honda’s Founder’s Day. June 11, 2017 marks 58 years since Honda’s first business operation in North America.

Remember our Fallen

To honor all service members, on Friday, July 21, 2017, the 5th Annual Hidalgo/Warner Memorial Golf Outing will take place. All proceeds benefit Fisher House Wisconsin, Daren M. Hidalgo Memorial Fund and Richard D. Warner Memorial Fund. In July of 2016, Team Hidalgo/Warner joined with Wisconsin Veterans of Foreign Wars Foundation (VFW) and raised $43,000 in proceeds. We hope to surpass that amount for 2017.

Fisher House Wisconsin’s mission is to provide a “home away from home” for military and veteran families to be close to a loved one when hospitalized at the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center in Milwaukee. Now welcoming veterans and families, the 13,000-square-foot facility offers 16 bedroom suites, all professionally furnished and decorated. The Daren M. Hidalgo Memorial Fund and the Richard D. Warner Memorial Fund have both provided scholarships to deserving high school students. We are a Proud Sponsor

Local business’ sponsor their time and money to help support this great event. We are proud to be part of the 2017 sponsors. Also, lookout for a few of our shuttle vehicles, which will be used for shuttling during the weekend event!

We also encourage everyone to volunteer! This year, more than 3,200 volunteers will donate a combined 16,495 hours of their time to grill, serve food, facilitate recycling and composting, and keep the grounds clean and safe for all attendees. Volunteers will earn $8 per hour, which will be donated back to their charity of choice at the end of the event, according to bratfest.com.

Zero Waste Initiative

For the third year in a row, Brat Fest will focus on their Zero Waste Initiative. The Zero Waste Initiative is a recycling program that adds composting with the goal of dramatically reducing the amount of landfilled waste in an effort to protect and benefit the environment (bratfest.com). Volunteers help fest goers sort through their throw away items and place them into the correct bins labeled, trash, recyclable and compostable. Volunteers will also walk around the fest picking up items left behind to be sorted.

In 2016, Brat Fest reached 56.5% compostable and recyclables, compared to 55% in 2015. This year’s goal is to reach 60% compostable and recyclables. The compost is transported to a biodigester in Caledonia, WI and converted into energy for local utilities.

We hope everyone has a safe and fun Memorial weekend and enjoy some brats while at Brat Fest! Also, don’t forget to check out our website for great deals during our Memorial Day Sales Event and Like us on Facebook.
