How Honda Leads the Automotive Industry in Safety

By | Community Support, Dealer News, Honda Cars, Honda Innovation, Honda News, Safety | No Comments

June is National Safety Month, and for the industry leader in producing the safest vehicles on the road, the six-letter word is packed with importance.

At Honda, pioneering the safest vehicles is a constant pursuit of perfection, with the ultimate dream of a collision-free future. Rooted in racing, the same technologies and knowledge that keeps racers safe at speeds over 200 miles per hour are used to produce the safest cars on the streets today.

In fact, by model year 2040, Honda hopes to completely eliminate car collisions from the roads. As part of that effort, the company has become the first in the automotive industry to utilize a new three-dimensional, crash-simulation visualization technology.

Such dedication to safety is why Honda and child company Acura have a combined total of ten IIHS Top Safety Pick vehicles in 2017. One of these top safety picks is the Honda Ridgeline, the first and only pickup truck in history to achieve the rating.

Among its many safety features, the Ridgeline and other Honda models come equipped with Honda Sensing. This safety-oriented technology suite includes Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™) with Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Road Departure Mitigation (RDM) with Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC).

On top of these, all 2017 models come standard with a multi-angle rearview camera, Advance Compatibility Engineering body structure, Vehicle Stability Assist, anti-lock braking system, and advanced airbag systems.

In light of National Safety Month, suffice it to say that Honda is the go-to source of the safest vehicles on the market.

Your Summer Car Care Checklist

By | Dealer News, Honda Cars, Owners, Safety, Service News, Service Special | No Comments

The weather is warming, the sun is shining brighter, and you are ready for those hot summer days … is your car?

There are a few car care items you’ll want to check in heading into the summer season. After all, you don’t want your big summer plans to fall through because of car trouble. As always, come by our service center at Wilde East Towne Honda to have our certified technicians have a look!

The Checklist

1. Coolant – Perhaps most importantly, make sure your coolant fluid levels are where they need to be. With the heart of the summer approaching fast, the extreme heat will challenge your vehicle’s cooling system. Make sure your car is prepared – top off fluid levels and have a technician closely inspect the rest of the coolant system for potential leaks and other weaknesses. Check up on other fluids as well – oil, brake, and washer fluids.

2. Tires – Improper tire pressures are a year-round issue, but the result can be much more punishing in summer weather. Consult your vehicle’s manual to find the proper inflation level for your tires. In addition to the tires themselves, be sure to check tire treads for damage or wear. On days with extreme heat, limit your amount of driving, as the hot pavement causes quicker damage and wear when in direct contact with tires on the road.

3. Shading – When possible, limit your vehicle’s direct contact with the sun by parking in shaded areas. The sun’s hot rays can deteriorate a car’s paint. Prolonged exposure can also cause strain on other parts of the car.

4. Cleaning – In general, a thorough post-spring cleaning will help keep your car running smoothly. Remove that winter and spring gunk that tends to get caught in the corners. Keep your vehicle running A++ by cleaning it right at summer’s start.

5. Other – On top of all these checks, be sure to inspect wiper blades, air filter, and exterior surfaces. Is exterior metal equipped with rust preventative? Is your air filter clogged or in need of replacement?

If any of these summer car care items have not been taken care of, your certified technicians at Wilde East Town Honda can help!

Introducing “The DT” (The Designated Texter) by Honda

By | Honda Cars, Honda News, Safety | No Comments

Coinciding with April’s Distracted Driving month, Honda has come out with “The DT,” which means The Designated Texter. Geared toward the younger generation, Honda created a fun video coupled with gifs and memes to discourage drivers from distracted driving. You can find the video here on YouTube: https://youtu.be/tfFmavG4xM8.

In the video, two young men rap to the benefits of a “DT” creating an informational and entertaining approach to the importance of practicing safe driving habits. The “DT” is a person the driver trusts with his or her phone while they are behind the wheel. With that trust, the “DT” can send out text messages, take photos and more with the driver’s permission so the driver can drive responsibly.

“Honda believes it’s critically important we continue to educate consumers about safer driving habits, especially with so many young drivers with cell phones behind the wheel,” said Ernie Kelsey, senior manager of regional, social and experiential marketing at Honda. “Distracted driving is a serious issue, but we hope with this “DT” campaign we’ll get the attention of young drivers to address one portion of the issue…and make it cooler to hand over your phone to your passenger than to attempt to text or take photos themselves.”

About Honda’s Commitment to Safety

Honda vehicles offer a broad range of active and passive safety features, including the Honda Sensing® suite of advanced safety and driver-assistive technologies, which can help avoid a collision or mitigate its severity. There are more than 500,000 vehicles equipped with Honda Sensing® on U.S. roads today. Honda Sensing® is available on the Civic, Accord, CR-V, Pilot and Ridgeline. All 2017 Honda Models come equipped with a multi-angle rearview camera as standard equipment and Honda’s Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure.

“2017 Best Cars for Families” by U.S. News & World Report!

By | Dealer News, Honda Cars, Honda News | No Comments

Honda did it again! The 2017 Pilot, CR-V, Odyssey, and HR-V have been named the “2017 Best Cars for Families” by U.S. News & World Report. The award was based on what each vehicle can offer families with space, safety, practicality, comfort and convenience. Out of 211 new cars, SUVs and minivans equaling up to 18 different classes of vehicles, Honda came out with four that ranked the best in each category.

Best 3-Row SUV for Families: 2017 Honda Pilot

After the Pilot’s new redesign on its 2016 model year, it has earned many accolades and recognized over and over as a great family vehicle. It has three rows that can seat up to eight people, comfortably. What truly defined the Pilot as family friendly was the car seat capabilities. Made to accommodate three car seats in the second row with the seats staggered, and third row LATCH anchors, the Pilot is made to accommodate every member of the family.

Best Compact SUV for Families: 2017 Honda CR-V

Also newly redesigned, the CR-V still continues to provide families with the utility, space, and safety they need. In its class, the CR-V offers the most passenger and cargo space, reliability with ratings to prove it and advanced safety equipment and features that families love. Still a utility vehicle, the CR-V has the comfort and flexibility to get you where you want to go.

Best Minivan for Families: 2017 Honda Odyssey

Always a family favorite, the Odyssey has been awarded the title of the best minivan for families seven years in a row by U.S. News. Built with family-friendly features, it’s roomy, accommodating, and you can even get one with a vacuum! We can’t wait to see what the redesigned 2018 Honda Odyssey has in line for family friendliness.

Best Subcompact SUV for Families: 2017 Honda HR-V

The HR-V is the best subcompact SUV for families. It may not look like a family car, but don’t let the size of it fool you. It has the best cargo and passenger space in its class. Families love it because it’s practical, reliable, efficient and you have plenty of room for child seats with its upper and lower anchor access.
