Your Summer Car Care Checklist

The weather is warming, the sun is shining brighter, and you are ready for those hot summer days … is your car?

There are a few car care items you’ll want to check in heading into the summer season. After all, you don’t want your big summer plans to fall through because of car trouble. As always, come by our service center at Wilde East Towne Honda to have our certified technicians have a look!

The Checklist

1. Coolant – Perhaps most importantly, make sure your coolant fluid levels are where they need to be. With the heart of the summer approaching fast, the extreme heat will challenge your vehicle’s cooling system. Make sure your car is prepared – top off fluid levels and have a technician closely inspect the rest of the coolant system for potential leaks and other weaknesses. Check up on other fluids as well – oil, brake, and washer fluids.

2. Tires – Improper tire pressures are a year-round issue, but the result can be much more punishing in summer weather. Consult your vehicle’s manual to find the proper inflation level for your tires. In addition to the tires themselves, be sure to check tire treads for damage or wear. On days with extreme heat, limit your amount of driving, as the hot pavement causes quicker damage and wear when in direct contact with tires on the road.

3. Shading – When possible, limit your vehicle’s direct contact with the sun by parking in shaded areas. The sun’s hot rays can deteriorate a car’s paint. Prolonged exposure can also cause strain on other parts of the car.

4. Cleaning – In general, a thorough post-spring cleaning will help keep your car running smoothly. Remove that winter and spring gunk that tends to get caught in the corners. Keep your vehicle running A++ by cleaning it right at summer’s start.

5. Other – On top of all these checks, be sure to inspect wiper blades, air filter, and exterior surfaces. Is exterior metal equipped with rust preventative? Is your air filter clogged or in need of replacement?

What’s New…

Completely redesigned and reengineered, the 2017 Honda CR-V is now sporting it’s fifth generation body style that is bold and sophisticated. It also has a more spacious, versatile interior with new features and technologies. New to the lineup, EX trim levels and above include the new 1.5-liter, 190 horsepower turbocharged engine. Known to boost performance and fuel economy ratings, the turbocharged engine is a welcome upgrade to the already beloved CR-V.

Get Your Car Winter Ready!

I know we don’t want to think about it yet, but it’s going to happen, winter is coming. Before winter hits, you’ll want to winterize your car. There are many tips on how to winterize your car, so we came up with a few that will get you going in the right direction.


Oil Change. An old change is one of the easiest maintenance necessities. Not getting your oil changed frequently enough or allowing oil levels to run too low can ruin your car’s engine. Newer Honda’s have a percent oil minder. It is recommended that you change your oil at 15% or every 6 months, whichever comes first. Not sure if you need an oil change? Ask one of our knowledgeable Service Advisors.

Check the lights. Having proper working lights will keep you and other vehicles safe on the roads. You don’t want to be stuck with only one headlight during one of Wisconsin’s famous snow storms.

Replace wiper blades. Wiper blades are meant to clear the windshield so the driver can see clearly. Cracked or worn blades won’t do an adequate job and you’ll see streaks on your windshield.

Check your battery. Nothing is worse than being late for work or an appointment and your car won’t start. A fully charged battery is necessary to start a car in cold weather. One of our technicians can run a battery test for you and give you an accurate reading and help you decided if your battery needs to be replaced.

Check all fluid levels. This includes the coolant level, washer fluid, transmission, brake and power steering fluids. Our Service Department will happily top off fluids for you.

Don’t Forget About Siri Eyes Free Mode Software Update Available on Select 2013 & 2014 Honda Accords

Are you a Honda Accord owner that also uses iPhone on a daily basis? In a continuing effort to bring you the latest and most innovative technology, as a reminder, Honda has an update available for the iPhone’s Siri Eyes Free Mode installed in select Accords. Applicable models include all of the 2013 Accord trim levels, 2014 Accord Sedan EX-L with Touch Screen Audio/Navigation and above and 2014 Accord Coupe EX, EX-L with Touch Screen Audio/Navigation and above. Our knowledgeable Service Advisors and certified technicians at Wilde East Towne Honda are ready to help assist you and your Accord needs with this update. This is an older update, so your Accord may already have the updated software installed. If you are not sure, the next time you stop in for an oil change we can test it for you. Just let us know you wish to have this feature tested. In order to test for the update, please bring your iPhone in at the same time as your Accord.

American Honda Motor Co., Inc., states that Siri Eyes Free Mode allows a more personalized integration experience between your Siri-equipped iPhone and your vehicle’s Bluetooth® HandsFreeLink® system. In addition to using familiar in-vehicle voice commands, you can also say Siri-related commands. Use Siri as you normally would with your iPhone, for features such as sending and reading aloud text messages and sending emails, setting up calendar entries, reminders and alarms, checking the weather, posting to social media sites and more!

Kelley Blue Book Names 2016 Honda Civic ‘Overall Best Buy of the Year’

Honda’s all-new, redesigned sporty and fun-to-drive 2016 Civic has been named the ‘Overall Best Buy of the Year’ by Kelley Blue Book. According to the expert team of editors and evaluators at, ‘the 2016 Honda Civic is the Overall Winner in our Best Buy Awards because it sets a new standard in a segment already known for delivering great value, providing an up-level experience to drivers and passengers in every facet of the driving and ownership experience.’ In addition to the 2016 Civic, Honda’s 2016 CR-V, Pilot and Odyssey took home ‘Best Buy’ honors showcasing their strength in light-truck offerings. Honda also took home five of the 11 non-luxury awards from Kelley Blue Book.

Safety Event a Success!

We would like to thank everyone who visited our dealership during our first ever Safety Week event from Saturday, September 19 through the 26th. We couldn’t have had such a successful event without you! You can check out photos from the event on our Facebook page.

During our event, we served hotdogs, had a Safety Sign creation contest, face painting by Funny Faces, ZooZort, a bouncy house, a karate class, airbag demonstration by ABRA Auto Body, CPR demonstration and Police and Firefighter presence! Some prizes for our contest and spin wheel were donated to us by Culvers and Family Video. We also paired with Operation KidSafe, a free digital fingerprint and photo safety program. With the use of a camera and a digital ink-less fingerprint capture device and specialized software, we were able to provide parents with a quality 8 1/2” x 11” printout of their child’s information. The parent obtained the only copy of their child’s information. The parent can use the printout they received to provide to law enforcement anywhere in the world to instantly aid in an investigation. 

Once again, we would like to thank everyone for making this event a success. If you missed it this year, don’t worry, we are planning again for next year!

Fast Fact – 2016 Honda Odyssey Special Edition Trim Level is Now Available!

We are excited to inform you that the all-new 2016 Honda Odyssey Special Edition, SE trim level, is now available at Wilde East Towne Honda! The SE is nestled in-between the already existent EX and EX-L trim levels. This cloth interior SE, gives you convenience features previously only available on the upper trim levels. These features include, rear-seat entertainment system (RES), 115-volt power outlet in the RES control panel, Sirius XM radio and HondaVAC in-vehicle vacuum cleaner.
